Next trip accomplished successfully!
Yesterday we drove for two hours to another house, where three kids and their parents live. We enjoyed playing a little with them that evening and then went to bed very tired.
Today we went to a place--hmm, what should I call it?--where there are old houses and reconstructions of old houses with people dressed in outfits of that time period walking around and doing work. We went a tour and saw a mill and a fancy house. It was pretty interesting. We also got to see lots of squirrels, mallard ducks, a calf, and sheep freely walking around the place!
I hope that my wi-fi card will start working. This family has wireless but I can't use it without the card working.
And by the way...Clan Keeper is completely done except for help, Watch Clan, and deployment! Hurray! I also have a sort of a bug with saving the allegiances--the way it saves it is not quite as neat as I could have wanted. But hey, it's better than nothing! If I really don't like it, though, I can always change it so that you can 1) copy and paste and/or 2) print it out. I think I'll add copy and paste anyways in a later version, as well as even more saving capabilities. Some of them will be so that you can save all the information you put in, so if you want to stop using Clan Keeper you don't lose your info.

Today--showers (thumbs down), my dad comes (thumbs up)
I am here typing as the washing machine fills. When it's finished, I have to go take a shower, so I'm going to make it quick!
Today my dad is finally coming here! Did I mention before that the rest of my family (my mom, Catherine, and me) went to America first, and then my dad is coming later? He's coming today, in fact! Hurray! I can't wait to fix the wireless on the laptop. I mean, I hope that I can fix the wireless on the laptop.
My three shots are feeling a bit better. I feel awfully stiff when I wake up after staying in basically the same position for the whole night! One of them has a big red spot all around it. I kind of freaked out when I first noticed (I sure did not want to have to go to the doctor because of some mysterious bad reaction) but thankfully my mom said that it was perfectly normal.
Goodbye and see you later! LEAVE A COMMENT!!!! Sign up for the wiki! Sign up for the forums! What on earth are you waiting for?!

Blah blah blah...
Blah blah blah...today I needed 3 shots and my lucky sister only needed one. Now both arms ache and I am practicing the art of typing using only wrist and finger muscles. I hate flu shots especially (last time my arm ached really bad for a week) though personally I'd rather have an aching arm than the flu.
On the sunnier side, I just realized how close I am to finishing Clan Keeper! All I have to do is finish the kit and elder functions, fix the silly Watch Clan, slog through deployment, and I'm done! I think the deployment will be the hardest, so it's a good thing that it's last. I'm not sure if I'll even have time to offer a beta.
We're going to go to the library after lunch! Hurray! :) I mean, hopefully we'll go to the library. I really want them to have Redwall books! Did I mention before that I like the Redwall series better than Warriors so far? Warriors is going downhill more and more steeply nowadays, though with the release of Bluestar's Prophecy fans are talking more about Warriors being revived. Well, the release of the Warriors Adventure Game didn't help much.
Anyway, I am going to completely rewrite my text editor Alison Text. I think I will either 1) do it when I finish kit, elder, and Watch Clan functions for Clan Keeper or 2) when I finish every last Clan Keeper thing, including deployment. I think that by the time I'm done with 1 I'm going to want a break. The only problem is that if my new Alison Text gets impossibly buggy, I'll be going back to Clan Keeper feeling defeated. Oh well, I've done so before.
And by the way, the wi-fi card is STILL not working (splat the ornery thing), but my wierd problems with the blog and wiki are completely fine. When it comes to the forums, I am totally disgusted with the software. I'm looking for some new software, so once again Firefox is filled up with SourceForge tabs.

Clan Keeper zooms ahead!
Today I spent my day debugging Clan Keeper! First of all, I had to add a lot to the warrior functions, as they were very buggy. Second, I added a little label to the theme control panel that states the current theme. Third, I fixed a problem I was having with a save-to-text-file function. All I did was not close the writer! Was that stupid or what? I love debugging when it's easy, but I like GUI design a lot better. I was reading the website of another Java developer and he commented, "I know you think it's crazy, but to me, GUI is beautiful." I don't think it's crazy. Seeing a beautiful GUI, even without one single useful function, makes it seem worthwhile. The joys of programming...:)
Anyway, today I thought that I will want to add Clan Keeper to the big download sites like SourceForge and Download.com. So guess what, when I read their terms and conditions, 1) you have to get an activation email and 2) you have to be 13 or older to just create an account. If you're under 18, you need permission from a "Parent or Guardian". Splat the websites! People on the Internet either discriminate against non-teenagers or are paranoid about security! You bet I will never do that unless I need to! I think that if I get my dad to make the account and put the stuff on, I'll be getting around it. It's not like anyone is going to be bringing me to court about it.
Oh and yes, I'm going to make a Clan Keeper page on my website. A whole subdirectory: peternoonan.net/Alison/ClanKeeper. So when I get it on SourceForge, I won't have to stoop as low as all those other developers, splat them, that don't have websites. I will put everything about Clan Keeper on it and offer a beta (once I can get database packaging all set up). Right now everything's going great except for Watch Clan. Splat Watch Clan. I'll fix it someday.
I also thought up a grand six-item list of features to add to Clan Keeper, but I am definitively going to wait until a 2.0 or 3.0 release to implement them. Just think, I'll be able to offer multiple releases of Clan Keeper! I should add a Clan-Keeper only forum.
This entry is getting a bit long, but I have to say something funny: my part of this website is far bigger than either my dad's or my sister's. Now I am seriously thinking about asking for a domain for Christmas that support servlets, PHP 5, and databases. That would be such a luxury.

A tale of wi-fi cards, mysterious problems, and wonderful success
The Tale of Wi-fi Cards:
Yesterday I was able to connect to the Internet at my grandmother's with my D-Link AirPlus card thingy for connecting to wireless. Today, when I put the card in, it blinks once and then stops. The computer just doesn't recognize it. I didn't drop it or anything! Help! Well, at least I can use her computer for some Internet stuff, but goodbye to downloading new look-and-feels or programs.

The Tale of Mysterious Problems:
Yesterday my wiki complained that I had the wrong username or password when I logged in, then it worked. Today my blog complained that the administrator had denied me some of my rights to do stuff, then worked. Now what is going on? I sure hope I'm not trying to deal with hackers. What would anyone want with me, anyway?

The Tale of Wonderful Success:
I love Clan Keeper, databases, SQL, and JDBC! Hurray! Today I added a whole new feature to Clan Keeper: theme control. You can choose one from the tens of Substance skins. I only like eight or so, but hey, other users might like other ones. I also finished all the functions for working with warriors and my sister enjoyed using Clan Keeper a little. I am so excited!! I just hope deployment won't be a headache. I think NetBeans will help me when it comes to that...but...
Oh yes, NetBeans is my choice of IDE. You can get it here. I used Eclipse when I was first starting out, but then I switched to NetBeans because it came packaged with database stuff, a GUI builder, and just more than Eclipse comes with. I am no especial advocate of either. The truth is that in the long run, Eclipse has more features because of the wealth of plugins. But NetBeans comes with more. Most of the fancy stuff I don't need and don't use yet, and anyway I can always switch back to Eclipse.
